Karen is currently optioning and developing various feature screenplays while still writing and directing short films. Most recently Karen completed the short family drama A Pickle with the participation of the 2008 Cineworks Production Fund. A Pickle starring William B. Davis and Cainan Weibe is currently screening in film festival all over the world, including its World Premiere at the New York City Short Film Festival. In 2006, Karen directed two short films; the teen thriller THE JANITOR’S OFFICEand the dance piece PERCEPTIONS which have both won awards and continue to screen in film festivals all over the world.
In 2005/2006 Karen had the opportunity to work with Waterfront Pictures Inc. in creative producing a 1hr Children’s Christmas animation entitled A VERY FAIRY CHRISTMAS. This was Karen’s first experience working in the format of animation which was challenging but most of all a lot of fun.
INFINITE MOMENTS marked Karen’s directorial debut, having previously worked as a producer on various projects. Creating INFINITE MOMENTS on 35mm film was an amazing experience and she is very excited for this important film to reach out to as many people as possible.
Karen has written and produced the short comedy LEMON with director Katrin Bowen, produced the award winning quirky love story GROUNDED with editor Aren Hansen and produced a public service announcement for the charity ‘Room to Read’ with director Tony Papa, winning Best Spot for the charity ‘Room to Read’ at the 2005 Great Canadian Commercial Contest.
Joining forces with director Kurt Evans and editor Aren Hansen, Karen produced the satirical comedy HULA which has appeared in film festivals around the world winning best documentary at the Dragon*con Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.
The first short film Karen both wrote and produced was the dramatic thriller CONCEPTION, directed by Kryshan Randel, which was honored with being screened as one of the top 10shorts at the Reel Fast Film Festival in 2003.
Karen’s first short film as a producer, entitled LETTERS FROMFRANCE was for The 24 Hour Film Contest where she completed the film from concept to final copy in just under 24 hours.
Karen spent three years in Toronto working with Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox and Alliance Atlantis in theatrical marketing and publicity.
Karen was born in Vancouver, BC Canada and attended the Vancouver Film School, graduating with a Certificate of Recommendation from the Foundation Film Program in 1996.
